As we delve further into 2019, we’ve seen a variety of new bathrooms trends emerge. Everything from day-spa inspired spaces to statement feature walls and brushed tapware have appeared this year, making it a very exciting time to be involved in a bathroom redesign.

Being located on the Gold Coast, we’re very passionate about coastal-inspired bathrooms here at McGowan Homes, so we thought we’d hero some of our favourite trends of the year so far.

1.Blue

Blue is big this year and we love the way it reminds us of the outdoors – a clear day at the beach, the rolling waves of the ocean and our glorious outdoor pools. Blue is also a calming colour so it’s perfect to incorporate into your bathroom space.

Everything from dark blues, to denim, metallic and ocean-inspired greeny blues is being used across bathroom spaces. There’s also been a recent surge in the popularity of statement coloured vanities – we particularly love the inclusion of pastel blue sinks.

2.Big windows

When you’re lucky enough to live in a beautiful coastal area, you want to make the most of it and that’s why we love this trend so much. Big windows allow you to fully appreciate and be inspired by your surrounds and there’s no reason this can’t extend into your bathroom.  Big windows are also a great way to increase the amount of natural light and sunshine coming into the room.

Another aspect of this trend is positioning vanities in front of big windows – this is a great way to maximise the use of natural light and take a moment to relax into your surroundings.

3.Water efficient fixtures

One of the most important things that comes with living on the coast means looking after the beautiful natural environment we’re blessed to live in. That’s why sustainability is so important and why water efficient fixtures are continuing to have such an impact on coastal bathrooms this year.

Incorporating things like a dual flush toilet and a highly rated WELS rain shower can help you save time, money and the environment without compromising on your coastal theme.

4.Tiles

Tiles can take your bathroom from boring to breathtaking and they’re a great way to continue the coastal theme of your home into the bathroom. Drawing again on a blue colour palette here is a good way to bring the outside in, as is selecting a tile that reminds you of your coastal surroundings. We particularly like a marble tile or these mermaid tiles from National Tiles as a way to achieve this.

5.Statement art

Who says artwork doesn’t belong in the bathroom? Adding a statement art piece to your bathroom is a great way to add personality and sophistication to the space. Things like framed photographic coastal prints or your favourite beachside shot blown up onto canvas will provide your bathroom with a welcome focal point.
